Sanhaçu: certified organic cachaça

(Brazilian sugar cane spirit)

About us

Sanhaçu is the first certified organic cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane spirit) in Pernambuco, Brazil. It is produced on the family farm of Barreto Silva in the town of Cha Grande, 85 km from the state capital, Recife.

Sanhaçu is a family business which has practised organic agriculture since acquiring the property in 1993. Throughout these years, the family has implemented an agro-forestry system which today is well developed and where examples of native trees of the Atlantic Forest can be seen.

With the resurgence of the original flora, the property has become a natural refuge for native fauna, which includes animals such as as teju, marmosets, foxes, hares and various birds, among them the Tanager, which is where the name of the cachaça comes from.

Sanhaçu seeks harmony with nature and believes in minimal environmental impact. Sanhaçu is a firm believer in recycling almost everything used in the production process of the cachaça. Moreover, some of the energy used on the farm is from renewable sources such as solar and wind power. With this commitment to the environment, Sanhaçu received the Certificate of Carbon Zero in 2013.

The factory is open daily for individual or group visits. Our office hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sundays and holidays from 9am to 3pm.

Visits must be scheduled in advance. Please contact us and come and visit us!
